Abou Mazdai, MD, 84, died July 14, 2021 at his home in Brownsburg, IN. His passing was a result of complications of a stroke he suffered nearly 5 years earlier. Dr. Mazdai was born in Zahedan, Iran to Bahram and Farangis on March 5, 1937. He was one of 4 children and is survived by his sisters Mehri Soroushian (Hormozd) and Mahin Mazdai of California and preceded in death by his brother Khodadad (Sima). It was during residency that he met his wife, Jo Wopat, in 1964 on a blind date. They were married on December 30, 1966 after he accepted her marriage proposal. The couple then embarked on several adventures that took them back to Iran for several years before settling in Connersville, IN after he completed his board certification in General Surgery. In 1972, he was the only nonhospital based specialist in Connersville. He spent the next 50 plus years caring for the people of Connersville and Rushville that he considered his patients, neighbors and friends. During his years of practice, he was active in many organizations and received a number of awards. In 2014 the Indiana State Medical Association honored him for his 50 years of service in medicine. Outside of medicine, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, motorcycling riding and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jo Wopat Mazdai, his sisters, his 4 children: Mina (Matt Green) of Bargersville, Anita (Brad Angeles) of Brownsburg, Dean of Hurst, TX, and Darius of Fishers. He had 5 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren that all survive, Alex, Sophia, and Gigi Angeles, Cira and Camron Mazdai and Conner, Kelsey and Maddie Green.
