Albert "Al" A. Weiss, Brownsburg, passed away October 16, 2012. Al was born on April 25, 1931 to Arnold and Elizabeth Weiss in Morosovskaya, Russia. He and his mother and sister survived hardship during WWII, having to move through Russia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Germany. After settling in Germany, he came to the United States in 1949 by way of a sponsorship from a Wisconsin family where he worked on a farm in Dausman, Wisconsin. As a foreign national in 1951, Al volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force of his adopted country where he was called on to instruct military intelligence personnel in the Russian language and customs. He obtained his U.S. citizenship and in 1955 settled his family in Indianapolis. In 1961, Al co-founded B&W Plumbing and Heating in Speedway, Indiana. He later worked for other industry contractors and retired after 40 years of work. He was an avid sports fan of boxing, Notre Dame football, auto racing, and the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Aloisia Pia Schwarz Weiss. He is survived by his children Patricia Schenkel (Paul), William (Karen) Weiss, and Catherine Weiss; grandfather ("Opa") to Nicholas, Katrina, Erich, Andrew, Stephanie, Alexander, and Steffi ; and sister Anna (Weiss) Deubelbeiss. We want to thank the entire staff at Brownsburg Meadows especially those in the Auguste's Cottage Memory Care unit who cared for Al over the past three years. Funeral services will be 10am Tues. Oct. 23 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with visitation there from 4-7pm Mon. Oct. 22. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association- Greater Indiana Chapter, www.alz.org/indiana
