Albert H. Willhouse Jr.
98, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 18th, 2026. Albert was born in Pana, IL to his parents Albert Sr. and Hilda (Schloz) Willhouse on December 10th, 1927. After his graduation from Pana High School, Albert attended Elmhurst College, where he met his future wife, Leta. They were married 73 years. After graduating Elmhurst, he attended Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO.
Albert dedicated his career to pastoral ministry. He served at Zion United Church of Christ, Bland, MO (1952-1954), St. John’s United Church of Christ, Okeene, OK (1954-1958), Salem United Church of Christ, Westphalia, IN (1958-1964), St. John’s United Church of Christ, Boonville, IN (1964-1974), St. John’s United Church of Christ, Vincennes, IN (1974- 1990), and First Congregational United Church of Christ, Marion, IN (1990-1992).
After retirement, he had five interim pastoral positions for five congregations for the United Church of Christ denomination and served Northfield Community Church United Church of Christ, Zionsville, IN (2001- 2013).
Albert was an avid volunteer. Some of the places he volunteered for were, the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, local Brownsburg, IN schools as a tutor for 25 years, and for KCARC of Vincennes, IN. Albert loved people and life. He never met a stranger and always took the time to talk with anyone he encountered. His extroversion and zest for life made him memorable to those who had the good fortune to meet him.
He was an avid sports enthusiast and especially loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was also a high school and college track and field athlete excelling in the hurdles and shot put. Albert was preceded in death by his parents Albert, Sr. and Hilda (Schloz) Willhouse, his two sisters, Helen Fitzgerald and Donna Willhouse and son-in-law, John Moody. He is survived by his beloved wife Leta Willhouse; and children Rebecca Moody, Paul Willhouse and Beth Willhouse (Brian Hutchison). Family and friends will celebrate Albert’s life at a later date and time.
