Anne C.
Sering
May 31, 1940 – March 21, 2024
Anne C. (Noecker) Sering
83, Brownsburg, passed away on March 21, 2024. Born May 31st, 1940 in Chattanooga, TN, she graduated from Scecina High School in Indianapolis before earning her undergraduate degree from Purdue University (1963). She met Jim while they both were studying at Purdue, and they married September 3rd, 1960, spending the next 63 years together. She later earned her Masters Degree in Mathematics, with honors, from Butler University (1981). Anne's first job was teaching at Attica, IN High School, before teaching for the Brownsburg school system. She loved the 7th graders but the high schoolers enjoyed testing her patience. After leaving teaching, her professional career was spent in computer programming, specifically Cobol and Fortran. This training enabled her to work for Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance in Indianapolis before moving to Monroe Guarantee Insurance in Carmel, IN, and retiring in 2006.
Anne Sering was a long time member and regularly attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Brownsburg, as well as spending time at Speedway United Methodist Church. Anne actively volunteered with both churches by mentoring the youth, attending Women's retreats, and as a member of the Calvary Classics. Anne was also a trained Stephen Minister offering support and care for others.
Anne's favorite patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, was chosen for her love of animals. Anne always kept multiple bird feeders in the backyard and made sure all the birds were well fed. The squirrels also appreciated the feeders, and she was fine with that. Anne Sering never quite got caught up on her Indy Star newspaper crosswords, jumbles, and cryptoquips, but worked on them daily. Her favorite color was purple, she enjoyed arts and crafts, and asked for chai latte deliveries at every opportunity. Anne was known for her kind and accepting heart to all, loving nature, and was a friend to anyone. Just as her mother was known to us as Mom-mom, she was Anne-ma to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Maxwell and Frances Noecker; daughter Jamie Rae Hamilton; and sister Lee Brunetti. Survivors include her husband James E. Sering; sons James Maxwell (Tina) Sering, Russell Byron (Savannah) Sering; grandchildren Alex (Karissa) Tedrow, Annabelle Sering, Elliot Sering; great grandchildren Cora Ellen, Evie Rae.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm Fri. March 29th, 2024, at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 1 pm. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery, Jamestown, immediately following.
