Betty Heacox, Brownsburg, died at home on Friday, December 6. Born Betty Lou Houseman in Cleveland, Ind. on July 14, 1930, to Chester C. and Gertrude Josephine Crane Houseman, she was raised in Indianapolis. She graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1948 and briefly attended Butler University.
While employed at L.S. Ayres and Co., she met co-worker and love of her life, Donald Heacox. They fell in love and married on December 30, 1951. After living in North Carolina and San Diego, Cal., during Don's service in the United States Marine Corps, they returned to Indianapolis where Don worked for the Tom Joyce Bottling Company. The couple moved to Brownsburg in 1957 where Don established the town's first State Farm Insurance Agency. He retired after 35 years in 2000.
Betty is a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Avon. She has played active roles in various organizations in Brownsburg over the years including the PTA, Girl Scouts, Tri Kappa, the Brownsburg Cheer Committee and has been active in right to life causes for many years. She also organized the Hendricks County Baby Photo Contest, held every year at the Hendricks County Fair.
Her children are Cathryn Loe (deceased), Linda and Libby Heacox, both of Brownsburg, and Donald Heacox, Jr., Kalamazoo, Mich. She is mother-in-law to David Loe, Brownsburg, and Laura Heacox, Kalamazoo. Her grandchildren are Courtney Wilkerson (husband Michael); Elizabeth Hudson; and Abigail Greci (husband Dominic); all of Danville; and Jacob and Ruth Heacox, Kalamazoo. Her greatgrandchildren are Lucy Engle-Wilkerson; Caleb, Margaret and Miles Hudson; Dakoda, Emmaline, Cathryn and Josephine Greci; all of Danville. Betty's only sibling, Jean Berlyn, is also a longtime resident of Brownsburg.
Visitation will be from 10am-12pm Thursday December 12 at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 9201 E. CR 100N, Avon, IN 46123. Funeral services will follow at 12pm. Burial will be at Brownsburg Cemetery.
