Billy J.
Williams Jr.
August 7, 1954 – November 19, 2024
Billy Joe Williams Jr. passed away the morning of November 19, 2024 due to complications from pneumonia after a lengthy battle for his health. The vivacious Leo was loved deeply and will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by mother, Helen Raydean Meadows; father Billy Joe Williams Sr.; and stepmother, Jean Williams. He is survived by his siblings, Brenda Dixon (Billy), Bobby Williams (Susan), and Lisa Moore Benca (Ken); his children Zackery Williams, Jennifer Collins (Josh), and Emily Williams; his grandson, Henry Collins; granddog, Chase; ex-wives Lori Williams (mother of Zackery) and Marty Williams (mother of Jennifer and Emily); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was born on August 7, 1954 in Whitehouse, Tennessee. The eldest of four, he was a charismatic man who could talk to anyone about anything. As an adult, Bill moved to Indianapolis, IN where he lived for the majority of his life. He worked at Kroger in the Deli and then started his contracting business of many years, A-1 Home Repairs & Remodeling, Inc. His dedication to his craft and helping others was pervasive throughout his life, as showcased by his mission work with St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the volunteer hours he put in as a "set parent" for Jennifer and Emily's theatrical productions at North Central High School, and his renovation projects alongside his son Zackery in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Bill loved vintage cars, cooking (and eating) hearty meals, the music of Carlos Santana, euchre, painting and sketching, Purdue sports, golf, and fedora hats. He didn't like to sit at home, but rather wanted to explore the world and learn about people no matter if he'd see them again or not. He loved connecting with strangers because he knew that anyone could become a friend in a matter of moments, as long as you listened to them and were kind. A habitual practice of his was to truly utilize someone's name tag. If a cashier was ringing him up, or a waitress was pouring him a cup of coffee, he'd say their name with such familiarity, that often they were convinced they had met him before - a reminder that anyone can become a friend if only you're willing to just strike up a conversation and treat them as such.
He was a kind man who always prioritized the well-being of others, even if it meant making sacrifices himself. He will be remembered for his generosity, humor, pulled pork recipe, blue eyes, and the adoration of his family.
Per his wishes, Bill will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church North Campus located at 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260 on December 14, 2024. A memorial service will begin at 11:00AM in the Robertson Chapel and will be followed by a reception-open house from 12PM - 2PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly encourages you to take a moment out of your day to attend an art exhibit or call and catch up with a friend.
