Obituary

Bruce E. Horn
January 12, 1946 - April 13, 2020
Bruce Ervin Horn, 74, of Lizton, Indiana, died Monday, April 13, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana as a result of a brain aneurysm.
Bruce was born January 12, 1946 in Freelandville, Knox County, Indiana to Ervin and Nelda F. (Held) Horn. He attended Alcoa High School in Tennessee as a member of the 1964 graduating class. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, studying computer science. He was employed by Blue-Cross/Blue-Shield in Indianapolis for 37 years, retired in 2001, then served as a consultant to Anthem for several years.
Having resided many years north of Brownsburg, Indiana, upon retirement, he and his wife, Jeannie, purchased farmland located west of Pittsboro, Indiana. They built a new home there and an additional barn then, for a dozen or more years, Bruce baled hay, which he sold to livestock owners.
Together, Bruce and Jeannie hosted countless get-togethers in their barn, ranging from Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to fun cook-outs and weekly card games. They enjoyed long-time friendships made while camping multiple summers at the Old Mill Run Campground near Thorntown, Indiana. They also had fun traveling around the United States in their motorhome and staying in a warm climate each winter; the most recent being time spent in Mission, Texas, from which they returned home in March, 2020.
Bruce was an avid fisherman, especially enjoying the sport on Lake Erie, Lake Superior, and in the Gulf of Mexico near Grand Isle, Louisiana. He was an enthusiastic fan of International Harvester and accumulated a beautiful collection of red tractors over the years. Having a keen business sense combined with the skill-set of a mechanic, carpenter and the like - Bruce was capable of restoring and repairing his own vehicles, remodeling their house, etc. He was in the midst of a remodel project in their home at the time of his death.
It is an understatement to say Bruce never met a stranger. He had a ready smile, a jovial laugh, and a genuine desire to help anyone who may be in need. He was deeply loved by his family and an abundance of friends. His kind demeanor, generous actions, thoughtful heart, and robust sense of humor will be sorely missed long into the future by everyone who knew him. The world is a better place because Bruce was in it.
Married since July 1, 1983, Bruce is survived by his wife of 37-years, Marlogene ('Jeannie'). Additional survivors include his son, Andrew E. Horn (Donna); granddaughter, Chelsey Horn; grandson, Koby Horn; a brother, Allan D. Horn (Kathy); nephews, Cody Horn (fiancé Kelsey Ensign) and Collin Horn (Shanoa); an aunt, Twila Horn; a sister-in-law, Lezlie (Meador) Horn and her children, Richard Horn, Melissa (Horn) Teer, Amanda (Horn) Palma, Leza Davis, and Joni Shoufi. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Horn and Nelda F. (Held) Horn; his brother, Roger Lee Horn; and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, Indiana. Due to the current global restraints pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no visitations or funeral service; a celebration of life gathering in Bruce's memory may be held at a later date.
Bruce enjoyed a life-time of broad involvement in and an immense appreciation of agricultural activities.
