Carl E. Johnson
92, Brownsburg, passed away Nov. 3, 2015. He is survived by his wife Genevieve (Jenny) of 65 years; daughter Diane Killingback; grandchildren Kristopher and Kolbi; nephew Doug (Debbie) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dora, Earl, Ora and Ernie Johnson and brother-in-law Gene Pendergrast. Carl was born in a farm house in Brownsburg on Oct. 21, 1923 to Zelphie and Ballard Johnson. Carl has been a lifelong resident of Brownsburg. Carl served in the US Army during the Korean War and is a member of the American Legion Post 331 and lifetime member of VFW. Carl was employed by Roberts Milk Company and drove the milk truck delivering milk to schools and businesses. He also worked for the Brownsburg School Corporation as a beloved bus driver and custodian. He loved to work in the yard and garden and owned his own landscaping business. Carl loved to grow veggies and sell them in his front yard and at the farmers market. Carl loved to go fishing and spent quality fun time with Diane catching big and little fish. He also entered his catch for the day in a contest held by the Indianapolis Star and received a letter from the Indianapolis Star as a certificate as one of the weekly winners in the Indianapolis Star's 1963 Big Fish Contest. Carl is known for his loving nature, his great sense of humor and loved sipping a coke at the legion while working on a few scratch offs. He is an avid NASCAR and IU Basketball fan, and in his younger years he enjoyed bowling on the Brownsburg Christian Church league. Carl was a member of the Connection Pointe Christian Church and loved listening to his favorite gospel music. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Thurs. Nov. 5 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services at 10am Fri. Nov. 6 at Connection Pointe Christian Church. Burial will be in Brownsburg Cemetery.
