Carol Lorena Dumbaugh, age 86, passed away January 13, 2026. She was born on November 6, 1939, in Brownsburg, Indiana to Chester and Lillian (Garner) Batz.

Carol grew up on a farm north of Brownsburg and graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1958. She attended Ball State University, graduating in 1962 with a degree in elementary education, and completed her master's degree shortly thereafter.

Carol's teaching career took her around the world. She began teaching with Indianapolis Public Schools before joining the Department of Defense Overseas School System. Her early overseas assignments were in Germany.  She then returned to the United States to teach in Danville, Illinois, before returning overseas to Okinawa.

On June 28, 1969, in Brownsburg, Indiana, Carol married David Dale Dumbaugh of Danville, Illinois. Together, they moved to England, where they taught elementary-age children for the Department of Defense Overseas School System for 33 years. During their time abroad, Carol and Dale enjoyed extensive travel throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Following their retirement from teaching, Carol and Dale resided in Brownsburg. In addition to her love of travel, Carol was an avid reader and enjoyed lace making, sewing and animals. She also continued to share her passion of education by tutoring children.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, who passed away in 2018, after 49 years of marriage, and her brother Eldon.

She is survived by her son, Eric Dumbaugh (Kari); her grandson, Derek Sigman; her sister-in-law, Jean Batz; her nieces Tammy Cole, Linda Batz and Debby Batz; and great-nephews Ryan and Jason Cole. Additional family includes three nephews, Kim, Timothy and Steven Flanigan, and cousins Violet, Monica and Keith Buchanan.

Memorial Service will be at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg on January 19 at 11am with visitation at 10am.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation at www.diabetes.org
