Carol Rae (Harlan) Phelps, a former longtime resident of Indianapolis, IN peacefully passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 81. She was born September 29, 1935 in Indianapolis, IN to Gladys and Paul Harlan. After graduating in 1953 from Ben Davis High School, she attended Tennessee Temple University, where set met her husband and she received her PHT and MRS degree. Through the years, she worked as a kindergarten teacher, a school secretary, as well as working in the banking industry. In addition, she worked alongside her husband in the ministry. She was a member of First Conservative Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL where she served as a pianist. Carol was preceded in death by her loving sisters, Pauline (husband Jay), Kathryn (husband Bus), Ruth (husband Charles) and Melba (husband Ray). She is survived by her husband of 60 plus years, O'Neil and her children Charlotte, David (Judy), Allen (Vivian) and Wanda (Jeff). She is also survived by four grandchildren. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 10 to 11a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Matthews Mortuary, 690 E. 56th St., Brownsburg, IN. The funeral will be immediately after at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville, IN directly following the service.
