Carolyn Gouwens Jones, 96, formerly of Indianapolis and Rocky River, Ohio passed away on July 22, 2016 in Brownsburg, Indiana. Carolyn was born near Dalton, Illinois. Throughout grade school and high school she took piano, drum, and xylophone lessons. She first met her future husband Jack when they were in the grade school band. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, for two years and then transferred to the University of Illinois. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics and taught high school Home Ec. for one semester. After teaching she became an airline stewardess for United Air Lines. Carolyn became a widow at age 51. At that time she renewed her teaching certificate and worked as a full time teacher and substitute teacher for 15 years. After living in Rocky River, Ohio for 60 years, she moved to Indianapolis to be near family. She lived at the Robin Run Community for 11 years and the Brownsburg Meadows Community for 6 months. Her lifelong hobbies were playing bridge, reading , and cheering for her favorite baseball team, the Chicago White Sox. Carolyn is survived by her sister Joan Elmer of Galveston, Texas, and her children: Priscilla (Terry) Barker of Brownsburg, Christina (Gary) Levicky of Humble, TX, and Martin (Ellen) Jones of Powell, Ohio. Carolyn had 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11-11:30 on Saturday, August 20 with a memorial service to follow at Calvary United Methodist Church, 575 W. Northfield Drive, Brownsburg.
