Catherine Parr Calvert (94), peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 28th. Born on November 13, 1928, Catherine grew up in Vinton, Virginia. The daughter of Vernie and Rumsey Hicks, Catherine grew up playing basketball in high school and was a proud graduate of William Byrd class of 1948. Catherine met her husband of 63 years, the late Gene Lynwood Calvert, shortly out of Highschool. A proud mother of two, Catherine dedicated her life to being a Godly wife and mother. She spent her time volunteering at her church, teaching Sunday School classes and participating in the church choir. She loved gardening and traveling with her family, most of all looking forward to their frequent trips to Hawaii. In her later years while homebound, she continued to minister to others with phone calls and cards of encouragement. Catherine was greatly loved by the residents and staff at Park Square Manor, where she will be greatly missed.

Catherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to so many. Preceding her in death were her husband Gene Lynwood Calvert and her three sisters; Ruth Bandy, Hazel Camden, and June Reavis. Catherine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Teressa Calvert, of Covington, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and John Modafferi, of Brownsburg, IN; grandchildren, Catherine V. Helderman and husband, Mike, Valeri Jean Abbott and husband, Chris, Ethan Chase Calvert and great granddaughters, Olivia Lynn Abbott and Sophia Catherine Abbott.

A ceremony of remembrance will be held at Park Square Manor, Avon IN on Monday January 2, 2022. Visitation from 1:00-2:00pm, service at 2:00pm with light refreshments to follow. A funeral service will be conducted at Oakey's Funeral Home in Vinton, VA January 7, 2022. Family will receive visitors at 9:00am, service to follow at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her memory to Faith Baptist Church, 311 Jackson Drive, Covington VA
