Obituary

Charles Stewart Curran, 74, Pittsboro, passed away Dec. 19, 2017, after a brief battle with Alzheimers. He was born April 19, 1943 in Framingham, MA to Josephine and Vincent Curran, both deceased. He graduated from Framingham High School and attended Worcester State College. He worked for New York Central Railroad as an assistant yardmaster and transferred to the Burns Harbor Division in 1966. Later he joined the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway in 1968 as an assistant trainmaster and worked until 1999, retiring as the Superintendent of Operations for the Railway. He truly loved working for the railroad industry. He moved to the Indianapolis area in 2004 to be close to his children and especially his grandchildren. After four sons and five grandsons, he was thrilled to have a granddaughter. In later years he traveled to a variety of places but always went back to Cape Cod, where he felt very much at home. Seeing the sunset on Skaket Beach, visiting his favorite fish store and prowling the antique stores and visiting the "Hole in One" were always on his agenda. He was always an East Coast guy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Paula Ritz Curran; children Brian (Valorie) Curran, Michael (Jennifer) Curran, Christopher Curran and Peter Curran; grandchildren Jacob, Joseph and Nick Curran and Patrick, Charlie and Caroline "Cupcake" Curran; sisters Mary Lawrence, Joan Curran and Jean (David) Accorsini; sister-in-law Helaine (Bruce) Campbell; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2pm Friday Dec. 22 at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg, with funeral services at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the Johnson Co. Autism Support Group, 609 Treybourne Dr. Ste. D, Greenwood, IN 46142.
