Obituary

Charles Martin Deitz

Charles M. Deitz, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025.  Charlie was born on June 1, 1935 to Herman and Ester Deitz. Charlie was one of nine children who all preceded him in death.

Charlie married his one true love Greta Sue (Trinkle) Deitz on September 14, 1957. Their 68 years of marriage was grounded in love, family, and faith. Together they had four children: Rhonda (Rick) Bowman of Avon, Kim (Joe) Pecar of Avon, Scott (Linda) Deitz of Beaverton, Michigan, and Kay (Kyle) Cohernour of Lafayette.  He loved and adored his nine grandchildren: Joshua (Laura) Bowman, Jordan Bowman, Nathan (Jessica) Bowman, Sara Bowman, Lauren (Tyler) Saso, Matthew (Natalie) Deitz, Colten Cohernour, Jacob Cohernour, and Trenton (Kristin Cavaletto fiance) Cohernour. He was very proud of his six great grandchildren: Chelsea, Tucker, Tatum, Beau, Brant, and Aurora.

Charlie was a proud veteran of the US Navy and served aboard the USS Kidd during the Korean War. When he returned home from service, he enjoyed a long career as a machinist supervisor at Eli Lilly & Co.  Following retirement he worked independently in the construction field. He and his wife enjoyed a second home, first on Raccoon Lake and later in Siesta Key Florida.  Charlie was a 32nd degree mason, a member of the American legion post #144, and the VFW.  He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan along with Indiana University.  He coached his children in Avon softball and football. He was particularly proud of being a founding member of the Avon Jr. Athletic Organization. He rarely missed any event where his children and grandchildren were involved.

His lessons on the value of education and respect of country will live on in his family. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in those that were fortunate enough to have known him.

Memorial visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm Sat. Oct. 25 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with memorial services there at 12 pm.  Graveside Services will follow in Danville South Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Avon Youth Sports, supporting all the kids in Avon, Indiana. Thank you for blessing the memory of our father, grandfather, and husband.
