Obituary

Charles H. Thompson, age 87, of Pittsboro, Indiana passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Charlie was born on October 10, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Luana Thompson. Charlie was married to his wife Nancy M. (Kaiser) Thompson on November 6, 1959. Charlie is survived by his daughter, Deanna "Dee Dee" English (Steve) and son, Steven Thompson, granddaughters, Elaine Schreiber (Adam) and Elise Seaburn (Nathan), grandson, Matthew Thompson (Caroline) and four great-granddaughters, Morgan, Kara, Wren and Vera.

Charlie lost his wife, Nancy on July 30, 2023 and was reunited with her in heaven, 20 days later. He cared for her lovingly for over 15 years as her health failed. Charlie and Nancy raised their family in Pittsboro, Indiana. Charlie graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1953 and attended General Motors Institute (GMI) in Flint, Michigan where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering through their co-op program. Charlie spent his career with Detroit Diesel Allison in Speedway, Indiana starting while he was a student at GMI. Charlie was briefly enlisted in the US Army, but it was determined his role in the Military Transmission Department at Allison was critical to the military. Charlie served on the Pittsboro Town Board, several Hendricks County and Northwest Hendricks County School Board committees and was instrumental in starting the Tri-West Youth Football League in 1978. Charlie was a life-time season ticket holder for Tri-West High School athletics. Charlie was an avid golfer and was hoping to play golf on the day he died. He and Nancy split their retirement years between Pittsboro and Ft. Myers, Florida where they enjoyed the warm winters which allowed them to play golf all year long.

Charlie was predeceased by his mother, Luana and her husband Fred Harshbarger, his father, Charles Bersot, his half-brother, Ned Harshbarger, his daughter-in-law, Melissa Thompson and his beloved grandson, Michael Thomspon.

Charlie willed his body to the Anatomical Education Program of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Friends and family will gather on Saturday, August 26th at 11:00 am at Pittsboro Christian Church to celebrate Charlie's life with internment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charlie's memory to the Tri-West Youth Football League, PO Box 544, Pittsboro, IN 46167.
