David Dale Dumbaugh, known as Dale, age 80 passed away on Friday July 13, 2018 at Brownsburg Hospital. He was born May 10, 1938 in Butler, Pennsylvania to David and Ruth Dumbaugh. He graduated from Danville, Illinois high school in 1956 and the University of Illinois in 1962. He served in the Navy from 1958-1960 and was stationed in Ethiopia. After college he taught in Danville for six years. Dale and Carol both taught for the Department of Defense Overseas School System. He taught in the Azores Islands while Carol was teaching in Germany and Okinawa. On June 28, 1969, Dale married Carol Batz in Brownsburg. They moved to England where they taught for 30 years. While living in England they traveled throughout Europe, Middle East and Asia. Dale was interested in architecture and liked to draw house plans and create things with his hands such as models. Upon retiring from teaching they moved to Brownsburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol, son Eric Dumbaugh, grandson Derek Sigman and his mother Amanda Sigman. Also surviving is his sister Eileen Flanigan and her family of three sons, one grandson, and two great-grandsons as well as Carol's sister-in-law, Jean Batz, and her family of three daughters and two grandsons. Memorial service will be held at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg on Wednesday July 18, 2018 at 3 pm with calling from 1:30 to 3:00pm. As per his wish, he has been cremated.
