David L. Jones was born Oct. 16, 1925 to Howard and Cressie (Grabman) Jones at 210 Jennison St. Crawfordsville, IN, a home he lived in until he was inducted into the US Army in 1944. He passed away at his home in Avon on Dec. 23, 2012. He had one brother, Donald, who passed away in 1992. They were blessed with a large family of uncles, aunts, and many cousins. Dave graduated with the class of 1944 of Crawfordsville High School even though he was already in the military. As a member of the Field Artillery, he was proficient in the 105 Howitzers gun crew. He was eager to defend our country and was on his way to Germany, when Victory in Europe was signed. Upon being returned to the US, he became a Drill Sergeant and trained new inductees to be sent to the Pacific Theater of action at Fort Bragg, NC. On July 14, 1945, he married his classmate, Phyllis Holt. She survives and God blessed them with five children, Diana (Jack) Halsey, Brownsburg, Nancy (Michael) Williams, Kokomo, David (Wendy) Jones, Tampa, FL, Jeffry (Carol) Jones, Brownsburg, and Kathy (James) Lyle, Centreville, VA; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren plus number eighteen soon to arrive. Following in his father's footsteps, he became an industrial electrician with the IBEW #481. His main employers were Watson-Flagg and Ermco Elec. He completed many special projects during his retirement. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethesda Baptist Church Master's Plan. Dave loved his family dearly and was loved much in return. His memory will be cherished and he will be sincerely missed. Visitation will be 4-8pm Thurs. Dec. 27 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 10am Fri. Dec. 28. Burial will be at Brownsburg Cemetery.
