David A. Marshall, of Brownsburg, IN, passed away on Monday, March 10th, 2025 at the age of 76, surrounded by his immediate family and his brothers.

Dave was the best of men—a wonderful, devoted husband, the most amazing father, a loving son, brother, uncle and grandpa, and a friend to everyone he met. Dave brought love, joy, and adventure to the lives of those who knew him.

Dave and his loving wife Jody celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past June on Cape Cod. They were joined by their three children—Kara (and Ross) VanderLaan, Kyle (and Erin) Marshall, and Amy (and Jeff) Calloway, along with their seven grandchildren: Andrew VanderLaan, Alex VanderLaan, Everett Marshall, Charles Marshall, James Marshall, Avery Calloway, and Oliver Calloway.

Dave was an avid runner, completing more full and half marathons than we can easily count. He skied the Rockies each winter and spent summers walking the beaches on Cape Cod with Jody. He also instilled a love of the outdoors in his children, taking the family on camping vacations across the country and teaching them how to build a campfire and make proper s'mores.

A 1970 graduate of Western Illinois University, Dave spent the bulk of his career in retail management. In 2001 he transitioned to financial planning with Thrivent Financial, ably helping others to reach their goals. He retired in December 2016.

Dave is also survived by his beloved brothers, Doug (and Carol) Marshall and Tom (and Kim) Marshall, his brother-in-law, David (and Sherry) Reynolds, and six nieces and nephews.

The kindness and genuine friendship Dave showed to all will never be forgotten. He touched the lives of every single person he knew for the better, and while he will be missed fiercely, he is in a better place, where there is no pain and suffering, only peace and light. Our lives won't be the same without him.

An informal gathering will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 1 pm in the Narthex at Christ Lutheran Church, 600 Ford Rd., Zionsville, IN 46077. Dave's funeral service will be at 2 pm, with a small reception following the service. A private graveside service will be held on Cape Cod later this summer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center--Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
