(Erika) Pitcher and Kristina D. (Eric) Bowser; beloved son of Willa Pitcher; loving grandfather
of Jaxon, Sullivan, and Magdalene Pitcher; Klarissa, EmmaLynne, Scott and Willa Bowser;
dearest brother of Janda (Dan) Able and Jennifer Pitcher and dear uncle of many. He was
preceded in death by his beloved father, Will Pitcher. Calling at Matthews Mortuary,
Brownsburg, IN on Friday, April 7 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at
Harmony Avon Church on Saturday, April 8 at 11:00 AM, graveside service to follow at
Brownsburg Cemetery.
David Dean was born to Will and Willa Pitcher on August 4, 1955, at Methodist Hospital in
Indianapolis. He was both an affectionate little boy and a big tease! He and his sister Janda
spent countless hours walking to school together, riding bikes, and giving each other
advice. When they grew up, she played the piano for him while he sang at church. His other
sister, Jennifer came along later and worshiped her big brother. David grew up in Brownsburg,
Indiana where he attended Brownsburg Community School and was involved at Faith Baptist
Church of Avon. David was a member of the Brownsburg High School Cross Country team and
played basketball. He graduated from Tennessee Temple University with a bachelor's in
education. He began his career teaching at Bethesda Christian School in Brownsburg. He went
on to hold several leadership/management positions through the years before coming full circle
and leaning into education again both as a student and a professor.
David married Kaye Callahan on August 7, 1982, and was forever smitten. Anyone who knows
him knows that he only had eyes for her since the day their relationship began. Most
conversations he had with everyone included him expressing his love for Kaye at some
point. He was incredibly proud of his first born, a son, David Andrew and equally as proud
when they had their baby girl, Kristina Danae. David lost his dad in 1996. This left an
enormous void for the entire family. David loved and admired his dad so much that he requested
his final resting place to be near him. David was a very loving grandfather and enjoyed having
all his grandkids over often. A couple of his favorite memories include a snowy football game
with Jaxon and Sully and participating in a forbidden Dairy Queen run with Klarissa,
EmmaLynne, Scott and Willa.
Some of David's favorite things included church, football, basketball, NASCAR, motorcycles,
his dogs Bo, Doc, Maxx and Lillie, his riding lawn mower, reading, singing, good food, Brown
County/Nashville, Indiana, and Das Essenhaus in Middlebury, Indiana.
Later in life after raising his kids, David demonstrated his passion for lifelong learning by
completing his Master of Science in Organizational Leadership as well as his Doctor of
Philosophy in Global Leadership/Organizational Management. He won the prestigious
Outstanding Graduate Award during his master's program and earned GPAs of 4.0 in both
programs. He most recently taught at Purdue University, Indiana Tech and Carroll High School,
Ft. Wayne.
As a gifted leader, a loyal friend, and a man of good character, David devoted countless time and
effort to be the best he could be-and then to be even better. His students at both high school
and college from all over the country have sent memories, messages of love and respect for
David. He was so humbled by all of this. He was a man of humility and had a heart for the
underdog.
But of all these accolades and there were many, David was a true man of faith in Jesus Christ and
family. His final weeks were spent humbly sharing his faith by singing hymns to his medical
care team. Even in his most difficult hours, he never hesitated to thank each one for the care
given to him and to express love to his family and friends. He would tell us that all the houses,
cars, clothes, etc., don't mean anything when you are told you don't have long to live.
David's life verses included 1 Peter 5:6-7 "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand
of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for He careth for
you.". Psalms 34:6 "This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his
troubles.", and John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease." However, his family would
tell you that it is 2 Timothy 4:7 that describes David the best, "I have fought the good fight, I
have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
