Dean
Lowry
April 13, 1934 – December 7, 2024
Dean Lowry, 90, of Brownsburg, Indiana, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 7, 2024. Dean was preceded in death by his wife Elva Lowry; parents Forest and Adaline (Ballinger) Lowry.
Born on April 13, 1934, Dean spent his life working hard on the farm and serving his community as Custodian for John Glenn School Corporation in Walkerton, Indiana, and a Supervisor at Allis-Chalmers in LaPorte, Indiana. Dean took great pride in his work and rarely missed a day.
Dean's life was long and fortunate. He married Elva (Cochran) Lowry (d. 2011), the love of his life, in 1955. Together, they built a family, raising three daughters—Jennifer Moore (Ronald Moore), Melissa Davidson (Lee Tesdahl), and Heidi Lowry. Dean is survived by his daughters, as well as his six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dean was proud of his family and talked about them often.
In his retirement years, Dean's personality really shone. He took daily walks around the neighborhood, getting to know many neighbors. They would ask about him if he missed a day. Dean kept his mind sharp by working on hobbies. His love for hand crocheting chunky blankets and giving them away to friends and family became legendary. He painted over 100 paint by number paintings and created over 80 decorative stepping stones. He learned piano and played his first performance at age 79. He loved to travel and made his life-long dream trip to Alaska at age 83.
Dean's competitive spirit remained alive and well in his later years, particularly when he became the Wii bowling champion of Hendricks County Senior Center. He gained local fame by defeating the eighth-grade students of St. Malachy in a competition. His victory, proudly featured in the newspaper, became a source of endless humor for his family—though they were all secretly proud of his ability to out-bowl a group of teenagers.
Throughout his life, Dean demonstrated the importance of hard work, community, and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, though his memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
A service in honor of Dean's life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Matthew's Mortuary with funeral services there at 12:00 noon. He will then be laid to rest next to his wife in the Brownsburg Cemetery.
Dean, may you rest in peace, knowing that your love, humor, and life lessons will live on in the hearts of your family and friends forever.
