Diana ‘Lady Di’ Lynn (Volkert) Guthrie of Brownsburg lost her battle with Alzheimer’s on September 7, 2026. She was born on July 12, 1947, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Victor and Eula Volkert. Diana graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1966 and moved to Indianapolis in 1972 to pursue nursing. She graduated from the Indianapolis School of Practical Nursing in 1973. Diana worked as an L.P.N. at the Indiana University Hospital in the OB-GYN oncology department and later at Methodist Hospital in hospice care. Diana was also actively involved in the Brownsburg school community, often substituting for nurses or teachers.

Diana was deeply religious and put her beliefs at the center of her life. She did everything with the grace of God. Diana was a member of the Westside Church of the Nazarene, Kingsway School and Church, and Cornerstone Christian. She was an extremely caring person who believed philanthropy strengthened her spiritual relationship. Diana actively volunteered at Sheltering Wings Center for Women. She helped lead numerous women’s fellowship groups, chaired events, and gave back to the community.

Diana was undoubtedly creative. Sewing, quilting, painting, crafting, and baking were just a few of her many talents. Twice, she was an Archway Cookie finalist at the Indiana State Fair, where her yearly entries won numerous ribbons for her cake decorating, canning, and dressmaking. Diana’s cake decorating skills led to the creation of her own small business: ‘Di’s Pies’.

Diana married the love of her life, Samuel A. Guthrie, on January 16, 1981. They enjoyed a life of adventure and travel. Diana loved hiking and camping with her family, especially at Brown County State Park. Sam and Diana’s travels took them around the world, and they enjoyed ziplining, hot air balloon rides, dancing, and, of course, cruising.

Diana had a big heart; she always put others before her needs. Her devotion to her family, friends, and community was endless. She is preceded in death by her parents Victor and Eula Volkert, her brother Phillip Volkert, and her husband Samuel Guthrie. She is survived by her sister Pamela Vidt (Robert), brother Dennis Volkert (Lisa), her son Benjamin Guthrie (Elisabeth), daughter Sarah Guthrie Bright (Todd), her three grandchildren Lucas Guthrie, Simon Guthrie, and Isaac Guthrie, her aunt Evelyn Williams, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 10 am to 12 noon at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services to follow at 12 noon. Private burial services will follow. 

The Guthrie and Volkert families extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Clarendale at Bellevue Place for their devotion and care of Diana over the last two years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center or by planting a tree in the Holy Land in Diana’s name.
