Donald Partlow McFarling Brownsburg, died at home Sat., Feb., 26, from Parkinson's disease. Don was a founder and long-time president of McFarling Foods, an Indianapolis Foodservice Distributor. Born in Clark County, IL in 1922, Don was the youngest child of Leonard I. McFarling and Ora Dell Partlow McFarling. He enjoyed a rich childhood, nurtured by his older siblings, especially his sister, Nelle Marie McFarling Barkley. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940, and served in the Pacific as a radio operator. He was among the millions of veterans who returned home after WW II and resumed his life, marrying Esther Malinda Ulrey in 1946. Along with his brothers John, James and Robert, he started the company, then called McFarling Brothers, in 1948. Through the years, the brothers built a company known for its integrity and honesty. Don and his brothers worked together and played together with numerous trips to fishing camps in Canada. Don loved tennis and poker. He learned to fly in a Stearman Biplane, and built his own ham radio station in the basement of his home where he talked to other operators around the world. He was an avid reader who especially enjoyed the works of Louis L'Amour. For many years Don hosted the McFarling Family Reunion on July 4th , with well over 100 relatives and guests attending from all over the US and Canada. Following the death of Linda, Don married Lillian (Betty) Marburger McFarling, and they enjoyed a nurturing and loving relationship for over 20 years. He also gained a large, loving supportive family in addition to his own family. His later life was filled with family and the enjoyment of the fruits of his life's labor. His personal legacy is of an honest, humble man who was trusting and generous, and served as a mentor and friend to many. He will be missed. Don is survived by his wife, Lillian (Betty) Marburger McFarling; brother Robert (Grace) McFarling; sons Leonard (Carla), Charles (Leslie); daughters Marta, Julia Wise (Bill) and Bonnie McFarling; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; stepsons, John Marburger (Rosemary), David Marburger (Angie), Paul Marburger (Pam); stepdaughter, Lisa Stanfield (Rob); numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for 11am Sat., March 5th at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 7300 S SR 267, Lebanon. Interment will be private.
