It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorea Cyles May Stutz, age 45, who passed away on October 27, 2026, at Brownsburg Meadows, with her beloved husband, Bret, by her side.
Dorea was born on February 6, 1981, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Cheryl Lynn May and John Philip May. The youngest of the family, Dorea held a special place in the hearts of her sisters, who lovingly helped raise her and often thought of her as their own little baby doll. She was a beloved little sister whose presence brought joy, laughter, and countless memories to her family.
Dorea pursued an education in criminal justice and spent several years working for the Indiana State Police before welcoming her twin boys, Ayrton and Raylan, and beginning a new chapter of her life as a mother. She later joined the staff at St. Malachy Catholic School, where her boys attend, working as a preschool STEM teacher. Dorea loved working with the students and staff and became a cherished part of the school community. She also enjoyed being involved in St. Malachy's annual Country Fair, where she continued to build lasting friendships and connections with those around her.
In 2022, Dorea was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, beginning a four-year journey that tested her strength in ways few could imagine. Through countless treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays, she continued to face each day with determination, a positive attitude, and unwavering faith. Dorea never lost her ability to smile, and she remained determined to keep fighting. Her family, friends, church, coworkers, and community stood beside her throughout her journey, surrounding her with love and support that meant so much to her and her family.
Dorea had a special way of making people smile and turning ordinary moments into treasured memories. She enjoyed shopping, lunch dates, and especially coffee dates with friends and family. A trip to 7 Brew or Starbucks was always a welcome treat. She loved watching her boys participate in church and school activities and cherished the time she spent with those closest to her.
As a sister, Dorea was the little one her sisters helped raise and loved so dearly. As an aunt, she was caring, fun, and always ready to share a laugh. Her family shared a running joke for years: whenever something went wrong, the familiar phrase “Dorea did it!” was never far behind. It became a lighthearted family tradition that will surely bring smiles and fond memories for years to come. Now, in a way, Dorea did do it. She fought her fight with incredible strength, held tightly to her faith, and completed her earthly journey, finding her eternal rest in heaven. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew her.
Dorea is survived by her loving husband, Bret Stutz, and their twin sons, Ayrton and Raylan; her sisters, Leanna (Steven) Collisi and Yovonne Grego; her niece and nephews, Tiffany (Andrew) Rogers, Zachary (Nicole) Collisi, Anthony Grego, and William Grego; her great-nephew, Flynn Collisi, and another great-nephew expected soon; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cheryl Lynn May and John Philip May.
Dorea will be remembered for her strength, her unwavering faith, her beautiful smile, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on through her husband and sons, her family, the friendships she built, and the countless lives she touched. She was loved long before she became a cancer fighter, and she will be loved long after her fight has ended.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Matthews Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at St. Malachy Catholic Church. Cremation will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Malachy Catholic School or St. Malachy Catholic Church in Dorea’s honor.
Dorea's earthly journey has ended, but her love will remain with her family and friends forever.
