Dorothy J. (Helfer) Ackmann

July 14, 1924 – Dec. 11, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy announces her passing of Covid-19 on Friday Dec. 11, 2020.  It's with honor that we present her into the loving arms of Jesus Christ.  Born July 14, 1924, in Tipton, IN, she was the first of 3 children raised by Buren and Cuba Helfer.  She graduated from Arsenal Tech H.S. and later married the love of her life, Loren, on Sept. 12, 1948.  She lived in Lafayette, IN for 21 years, where, according to Loren, she mastered the art of her passion (shopping), especially at L.S. Ayers and Blocks.  She was a scouting den mother, Sunday School teacher and was the CEO of a loving home.

In 1971 she returned with Loren to Indy for the remainder of his career.  1979 marked the pinnacle of her life with the birth of her only grandchild, Amy.  In 1989 she retired with Loren to Florida, spending over 13 years on the beaches of Clearwater.  They returned to Brownsburg in 2002.  She was preceded in death by Loren Ackmann in 2005.  She leaves behind a son, Gary (Beverly) Ackmann; granddaughter Amy (Don) Rosenkrans; a brother William Helfer; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Due to Covid there will be no services. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In tribute to Dorothy, I would hope we could embrace life, focus our passion toward falling in love with our Lord, as well as each other.  In lieu of flowers, consider an offering to whatever makes the world a better place and warms your heart.  The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Prestwick and especially the heroic doctors and nurses at Hendricks Regional Health.
