Dorothy "Dottie" Owens
86, of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026.
Dottie was born on June 30, 1939, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Richard and Marian (Prebster) Ketcham. She graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1957 and went on to earn her Associate's Degree in Nursing from Methodist Hospital in 1960, where she formed lifelong friendships. She later completed her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at the College of St. Francis.
Dottie devoted her life to caring for others. She spent 30 years as an operating room nurse at Methodist Hospital and concluded her nursing career at Kendrick Hospital Center for Hip and Knee Surgery. Her compassionate spirit extended well beyond her profession, as she generously volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Operation Walk, the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline, Hendricks Regional Health in Brownsburg, and the Pittsboro Christian Church Food Pantry.
She lived life actively, always surrounded by family and friends she loved.  Dottie loved playing cards and was especially known for her impressive Euchre skills. An avid sports fan, she never missed an opportunity to support her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She also enjoyed gardening, designing dollhouses, and traveling on adventures with her husband and friends.
Dottie is survived by the love of her life, Tim, with whom she shared 29 wonderful years, and her children, Johnny (Kim) Lyon, Jimmy Lyon, and Jennifer (Mark) McDonald. She was a devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, with one great-granddaughter eagerly anticipated. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeffery; and her first husband, John D. Lyon.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 27th from 12 pm to 2 pm at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, followed by a funeral service and burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Pittsboro Christian Church.
