Edward Porter
Edward “Ed” Porter, 80, of Avon, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away in October 2026.
Ed was a graduate of Van Buren High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tri-State University, now Trine University. While attending college, he was initiated into Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He built a long engineering career with General Motors, Detroit Diesel/Allison, and Rolls-Royce, retiring as Chief Project Engineer after 33 years of service.
Ed and his beloved wife, Patsy, made their home in the Avon community, where they raised their two daughters. Their 57 years of marriage was grounded in love, family, and faith. He treasured time with family and especially enjoyed cheering for his grandchildren at their sporting events, as he rarely missed a game.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed driving his red Corvette, playing at the Golf Club of Indiana, and following NASCAR. He was also a devoted fan of Indiana University basketball and football and the Indianapolis Colts.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Patsy; two daughters and their spouses; four grandchildren and their spouses; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and many other friends and neighbors who will remember his devotion to family, his accomplished career, and the joy he found in sports and the open road.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg, with the funeral service immediately following at noon. Burial will take place at Mitchell Cemetery in Mitchell, Indiana, with a graveside service at 3 p.m. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Avon United Methodist Church or The Alzheimer's Association 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100 Indianapolis, IN 46240.
