Elbertine (Bert) Rose Crowe, 89, of Brownsburg, passed away on Sun. Jan. 14, 2018 at IU West following a brief illness. Bert was born February 5, 1928 in an apartment over a Blacksmith's shop in Jasonville, Indiana. She was the oldest child of Ory (Buck) and Stella Burkett. Bert was a 1946 graduate of Midland High School and later attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis. She worked briefly at Detroit Diesel Allison in the early 50's prior to marring and starting her family. Several years later while raising her five sons, Bert worked at the Indiana State Board of Animal Health. Bert also worked as a Greeter at Meijer in Avon for 15 years after retiring from her Board of Animal Health job. Bert and her family moved to Donnelly Heights in Brownsburg in the winter of 1963 and she lived in Brownsburg for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Brownsburg for over 50 years. Bert enjoyed an active life always involving her family, friends and church. She loved flowers, helping others and traveling with her family and friends. Bert was always a dedicated mom, grandmother and friend. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Bert's family includes her sons Allen (wife Gloria) Poppa of Phoenix, AZ; Ron Crowe of Indianapolis; John (wife Theresa) Crowe of Avon; Randy (wife Terri) Crowe of Pittsboro; her sister Mary Jane Faught of Jasonville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Bill Burkett; son Don Crowe and grandsons Tyler Crowe and Adam Poppa. Bert's Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church in Brownsburg on Fri. Jan. 19, 2018. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 am to 1 pm. Pastor Todd Outcalt will officiate her service beginning at 1 pm. Burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, Bert had requested memorial contributions in her name to the Pastor's Discretionary Fund at Calvary United Methodist Church.
