Obituary

Frank B. Collier
86, Brownsburg, passed away January 14, 2022. He was an air traffic controller for 25 years, retiring in 1982 and a US Air Force veteran. A long-time member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Through the years after his retirement from the FAA, he worked with many different ministries at St. Malachy and within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. His various ministries included traveling around visiting the different health care, senior living communities entertaining the residents with his vast array of musical repertoire. He also helped with taking communion to the residents and was always pleased to share and lead the Rosary with them. He also took great pleasure working with St. Malachy School as a volunteer reader for the younger students. He also took great pleasure working with the 3rd grade class sharing his music and leading them in songs. Franks last ministry was working with his daughter Theresa at St. Johns downtown Indianapolis, on Mondays, at the Garden Door handing out food to the homeless. He also in the past had worked with Beggars for the Poor to organize parishioners to go downtown on Saturday mornings to serve hot meals alongside those who were working to hand out various personal needs to those living on the street. His beloved wife, Joan, of 68 years, would get up early and make a big pot of sausage gravy for distribution downtown. The previous day he would go out to the local resstaurants soliciting bowls and plastic utensils for use with the hot meals that were provided. He was a former volunteer fireman for Brownsburg Fire Department and served as Fire Chief from 1985 to 1988. After retirement, he also drove form Link Transportation and a school bus driver for the Brownsburg Community School Corporation. Survivors include his wife Joan Collier; children Daniel Collier (wife Susan Culbertson Collier), Steven Collier (wife Brenda Collier), Michael B. Collier (wife Renae Collier), Kristin Underwood (husband Earl Underwood), Theresa Zimmermann (husband Joe Zimmermann) and Scott Collier; sister Judy Skinner; 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Monday Jan. 24 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with a rosary service at 7pm. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Tuesday Jan. 25 at St. Malachy Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Malachy Cemetery West, Pittsboro.
