Fredrick Carl Starks, age 72, passed away December 25, 2024, from complications of colorectal cancer.
Fred was born December 24, 1952, in Hammond Indiana. His parents were Fredrick R. and Anna (Van Krimpen) Starks. After graduating from T. F. North High School in Calumet City, Illinois, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He had a pause in service to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in history from Southern Illinois University. Fred then entered the U. S. Army serving more than 20 years. He had tours of duty in Turkey, France, Romania, and Germany. He was a proud American. He ran for public office and was president of the Brownsburg Indiana High School band boosters. Late in life, Fred worked hard to conquer a demon and was forgiven by his Lord, Jesus Christ.
Fred is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joy (Montgomery) Starks, a sister Nancy Starks (Charles Goolsby), his children Katie Starks and Fredrick M. (Laura Neilson) Starks, and a grandson, Holland Starks. He loved his extended family, especially sisters-in-law Anita Louks and Donna Reneau, and brother-in-law David Reneau. He enjoyed many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 575 W. Northfield Dr., Brownsburg Indiana 46112 on Saturday, December 28, with visitation at 11am and a service at 12pm. Burial will be at Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church.
