Obituary

Jean Davis
Garnita Jean Davis peacefully passed away at the age of 94 on August 22, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, on October 6, 1930, to Archie and Vesta Morrey, and she graduated high school in 1948. In 1952, she graduated from Teacher's College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO, and she taught home economics for several years, preferring to go by her middle name, Jean. A faithful Christian, she attended church and often read books to deepen her faith. She loved wearing earth tones and floral patterns, never overstating her presence but taking joy in simplicity.

She was united in marriage to Dr. Jack Norman Davis on December 26, 1954. In 1958, she became a mother to twins, Timothy and Thomas.

Jean was a devoted housewife and mother, always placing the needs of others above her own and showing her love through acts of service. Her favorite term of endearment for loved ones was "honey." In pursuit of the sweet, she enjoyed the art of cooking and baking from scratch, and could never turn down eating a good piece of pie (cherry and rhubarb were her favorites) or sneaking a candy from an open Whitman's sampler box. She enjoyed growing her own fruits and vegetables in the large garden behind the house, and she maintained her energy through much of her life, often carrying her walker off the ground to zoom about quicker than it would let her.

Meticulous in all things, she maintained a well-kept household for family and visitors alike, and she always stood at the door to wave goodbye.

Jean is survived by her children, Dr. Thomas Davis (wife Cathy) of Pittsboro, IN, and Timothy Davis of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren, Dr. Lindsey Davis of Plainfield, IN, and Jennifer Davis of Avon, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, Dr. Jack Norman Davis.

The funeral for immediate family will be hosted at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 28, with graveside services at 2:30pm at the Lizton K of P cemetery. Memorials or donations may be directed to Sutter Salem Bible Church in Warsaw, IL.
