Obituary

Gary Ray Abshire, 73, of Brownsburg, IN passed peacefully in his home on Friday August 1, 2025.

He was born July 3, 1952 in New Castle, IN to Robert and Eleanor Abshire. He grew up in Middletown, IN on a farm and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1970 where he was active in 4-H and Marching Band. He attended Purdue University and Anderson College, where he met his wife of 51 years, Nancy Boulton Abshire. They raised their 3 boys in Markleville, IN, and later became "Grandpa" and "Gee" to 7. He loved his role as "Gee" to Paul and MacKenzie Sanders and his role as "Grandpa" to Jillian, Savannah, Jake, Austin and Megan. He enjoyed spending summers on Dale Hollow Lake with dear friends, vacations in Florida and took pride in supporting his grandchildren in many of their extra curricular activities, including following three of them in The Avon Marching Black and Gold for nearly 10 years. He retired in 2015 from CREW Technical Services where he worked as a technical writer at Eli Lilly and Company.

He was a former member of Ovid Community Church in Anderson, Zionsville Presbyterian Church, and was most recently a member of Connection Pointe Brownsburg. He also attended Zionsville Great Banquet #17.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Abshire, his sons Doug (Natalie), Derick, and Dustin, his sister Janice Carter, sister-in-law Rosie Abshire. He is also survived by his grandchildren Paul (Callie), Jillian, Savannah, MacKenzie, Jake, Austin, and Megan, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. with funeral services immediately following at Connection Pointe Brownsburg Chapel, 1800 North Green Street, on Wednesday August 6, 2025.
