Gary S. Barker, 82, of Brownsburg, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with his loving wife, Maxine, by his side. Born in Evansville, IN, on July 8, 1943, Gary was the son of the late Raleigh D. and Florence V. Barker. He graduated from Evansville Reitz High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University in 1966.
Gary began his professional career with Sears before dedicating 34 years to RCA. His successful career took him across North America, living in nine states and Canada before his retirement in 2002.
Deeply involved in his community, Gary was a 46-year member of the Lynhurst Masonic Lodge No. 723 of Indianapolis, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, and the Murat Shrine International. A man of faith, Gary was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Brownsburg, and a former member of the Community Church of Saddlebrooke in Tucson, AZ, where he and Maxine cherished spending their winters. He was also a passionate, 30-year season ticket holder and avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Candace; his brother, Michael Barker; and his stepdaughter, Julie Parks.
Gary's legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; his sons, Brett Barker of Greensboro, NC, and Chad Barker (Jennifer); his stepchildren, John Mason (Kay) and son-in-law Kevin Parks, all of Indianapolis. He was the proud grandfather of Katelynn, Linsey, Dalton (Halley), and Reese Barker; step-grandfather of Rebecca Mason, Sara Goodwin, Kristen, and Caitlin Parks; great-grandfather of John-Brett; and step-great-grandfather of Eleanor and Henry Snyder, Margaret and Charlotte Goodwin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cornerstone Christian Church, 8930 N. SR 267, Brownsburg, IN 46112, on Saturday, June 20. Public visitation 11 am to 12 noon with services beginning at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Christian Church or the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation at https://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/
