September 2, 1934 – June 20, 2019
Gene Keith Holman, 84, of Brownsburg, formerly of Pittsboro, went home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 2, 1934 in Indianapolis. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Roy and Dorothy Holman and brother, Paul Holman. He was a member of Connection Pointe Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra Anne (Blocher) Holman and children Paul (Melinda) Holman of Pittsboro, Jeffrey Holman of Indianapolis, Laura (Ric) Basso of Brownsburg. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Shawna (Derek) Ades of Pittsboro, Sabrina Vaes of Anthony, FL; Erin (Chris) Vaughn of Jamestown, Elissa Holman of Lebanon and Nicole Basso of Brownsburg. He will always be cherished by his great grandchildren Brad, Molly and Sam Ades; Lincoln and Lucas Vaughn; Cali, Dallas, Denver and Savannah Vaes.
Gene proudly served our country in The United States Navy from 1954 - 1958, stationed on the USS Philippine Sea (CV-47). He was recently recognized for his service by The Indiana War Memorials Foundation. He was a member of The American Legion. Following his time in the US Armed Forces, he was employed with the Indianapolis Public Schools, retiring in 2001 as the Foreman in the Steamfitters Department after 36 years of dedicated service.
He was a Past Worshipful Master and 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge of Pittsboro, No. 620 F & AM and he was the Past Worthy Patron and 50-year member of the Pittsboro Chapter No. 416 OES. He was a Scout Master for many years of the Pittsboro Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 309. Gene was a loyal, kind-hearted man of great character who was quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He was known for his infectious smile, beautiful blue eyes, great stories and quiet strength. He was a fan of Nascar, the Colts and collegiate football and basketball games. He was an even bigger fan of spending time with those he loved. His family brought immense joy to his heart. He will be missed more than words can adequately express.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg on Tuesday June 25. Family and friends may call from 11am to 1pm with the funeral to follow at 1pm officiated by Pastor Steve Reeves. Graveside services will take place at West Ridge Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter.
The family would like to thank the Brownsburg Fire Territory, Dr. Mark Schopper, Hendricks Regional Health Hospital Danville and Kindred Hospice for their tender loving care.
