Obituary

George Washington Greer Jr. (Gutty)
Strolled into heaven to be with The Lord, on Monday December 2, 2024.  He was born March 24, 1932 to George Washington Greer Sr. (deceased) and Margaret Nancy Murray Greer (deceased) in Clay County, KY.  Gutty was the fifth child born of seven.  He was their final child to join the reunion in Heaven.   He was also, in the past several years, the oldest living Greer/Murray descendant to be living.

In the 1950's, Munk and Nancy relocated temporarily to Attica, IN, so that Munk, a master carpenter could have steady work building many homes in Attica.  That is where Gutty met and married the love of his life Delores I Livengood (Shorty deceased).  They went on to have 4 children, Frances Greer (deceased), Janet D. Greer Austin (Bob), Cyndi L Greer Miller (Brett), Harold D Greer (Pam Garis), Papaw/Ancient had 9 grandchildren, Stacey, Kristie, Jennifer, Brock, Danielle, Stephanie, Mary, Maggie and Madison.  He also had 22 great grandchildren, 3 of which are deceased Leah, Dalton and Walker, and 4 great great grandchildren.

George spent his working years as a tree surgeon, with the majority of his years as a foreman & supervisor for Telepower Tree Service later known as Townsend Tree Service. George climbed trees & was throwing ropes till he was 70 years of age & was diagnosed with Parkinson's.  He was also a musician and singer for most of his life, forming bands and traveling, playing and singing Country Western music till he was saved and then he began playing and singing Bluegrass Gospel.  He then formed The Liberty 4, along with his wife Dee/Shorty and best friends Carl and Mary Nieswinger.  They traveled and played in many churches, nursing homes, festivals, family gatherings and private home parties.  Liberty 4 recorded two professional CD's.  George also recorded 1 professional 45 and played and sung on 2 LP's.  His family has been so grateful and blessed that all though Parkinson's took his ability to play and sing these past few years that they have these professional recordings to enjoy and remember his talent and love for music.  George had stated many times, he got to play and sing at weddings, Anniversary Celebrations, Birthday celebrations, patients bedsides, funerals and fussy babies, but he never got to sing at birth of a child as he considered that one of the big occurrences in life to be celebrated .

In the early 70's He was one of the founders and members of the Hendricks County React.  George was also a very avid golfer, having been blessed to play at several very large and amazing golf courses in the United States.  In his early retirement years he became part of the ground keeper's team at Clermont Golf Course till its closing.

The most important in his life has been God and Family.  He will be greatly missed by his family & many friends.
