George E. Roe
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day." George E. Roe, 87, went home to his Lord on June 10, 2015 after a 4 month illness. He was born on June 8, 1928 in Tetersburg, IN, Tipton County, to Joseph and Bessie (Burkhead) Roe. He graduated in the class of 1946 from Jefferson Township H.S. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Ball State University. He worked at Speedway H.S. and Jr. High for 32 years where he taught German and was known as "Herr Roe". Over the years he also taught classes of Russian, English, and Social Studies. George was a faithful member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsburg where he served in many capacities over the years. He loved traveling and had been to all 50 states, as well as making several trips to Europe. After retiring, he lived in Hot Springs Village, AR from 1991-97, and then spent 2 years RV'ing around the country. George has spent the winters in Brownsville, TX for the last 16 years. He enjoyed playing Euchre and Pinochle and meeting friends for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. He was always busy with activities and remained very social and sharp-minded until his passing. He is survived by his beloved wife of 2 years, Susan Roe, and his loving children Mike (Trudy) Roe of West Lafayette, IN, Greg Roe of Springfield, IL, Lisa (Karl) Buetow of Avon, IN, and Mark Roe of Brownsburg, IN. His grandchildren are: Patrick (Alexa) Roe, Jenna Roe, Pierce Roe, Jon (Katie) Roe, Josh (Whitney) Roe, Leah (Jeb) Boon, Beka (Steve) Horcharik, Will Buetow, Andy Buetow, and Robby Buetow. His pride and joy were his great-grandchildren: Colton Boon, Jaxon Boon, Rowen Boon, Connor Roe, Jack George Roe, Eli Roe, and Remi Horcharik. George was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Petronel Dunham Roe, his wife of 15 years, Bunny Chidester Roe, grandson Michael Ward, parents Joseph and Bessie Roe, brother Thomas Roe, and sisters Viola Grace Roe, and Doris Harmon. Calling will be at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, from 4 - 7pm on Monday, June 15, with funeral services there at 10am Tuesday June 16. Interment and military rites will be at 1pm Tues. at the Kempton Cemetery in Tipton Co.
