Obituary

Gordon M. Capes
Gordon, known by his family and friends as Mike, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2013 at Avon Health and Rehab Center in Avon, IN. He was born in Sedalia, MO, in 1927 to Ralph and Georgia Capes. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, Mike attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951. Mike worked for College Life Insurance Company as a salesman, and then was the Training Director for the company until he retired in 1982. He also worked for Brookstone at the Fashion Mall for a number of years after his retirement. Mike loved to sing in the church choir and was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church and Zionsville Christian Church. Mike was also a member of the Broad Ripple Sertoma club and the American Legion. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Capes, and his wife Emily Capes. Mike is survived by his very dear friend Patricia Reynolds, family members Steve (Diana) Capes, Carol (Hurst) Hubbard, Mindy (Dick) Tibbals, Peggy (Dave) Zibert, Kathy (Dave) Snyder, Jim (Carol) Marker, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, at 11 a.m., preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. at Matthews Mortuary, 690 E. 56th Street, Brownsburg, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broad Ripple Sertoma Club, P.O. Box 40053, Indianapolis, IN 46260, or to your local American Legion Post.
