Obituary

Gregory (Greg) Holtman, 59, beloved husband, father, and grandfather and lover of Jesus passed away at home March 28, 2023, after a three and a half year battle with cancer.

Greg was born in Jeffersonville, IN on April 29, 1963 to Paul and Lois Holtman, the youngest of six kids. He had an all american childhood playing sports, hanging out with his buddies and a large loving family. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in 1985. While attending Purdue he met Cynthia (Cindy) Martin who he would marry in 1987. Their daughter Kimberly was born in 1989 followed quickly by 3 brothers Matthew, Jacob, and Jonathan. He cheered for them in all their endeavors, coached them in youth basketball and football leagues, and took great joy in watching them grow up. He was a proud Pop!

Greg served in various ways at Eagle Creek Community Church over the years where he was always willing to help out a friend whether it was using his home repair skills or moving a piano.

One of his greatest joys was being "Pop-Pop" to his seven grandchildren and they all adored him.

His 2019 diagnosis of Stage IV lung cancer came as a surprise and he fought it valiantly. Despite his pain he continued to work at Allison Transmission where he started as a machine repairman in 2009 after leaving Ford Motor Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Lois Holtman, and sister Janice Holtman. Greg was survived by his wife Cindy Holtman; daughter Kimberly (Adam) Jansen; sons Matthew (Margaret) Holtman, Jacob (Anna) Holtman, and Jonathan (Sydney) Holtman; grandchildren Isaac Holtman, Alice Jansen, Eleanor Holtman, Samuel Jansen, Jane Jansen, Weston Holtman, and Sutton Holtman; brother Mark (Jeanette) Holtman, sisters Christine Holtman, Donna (Ron) Lecher, and Anita (David) Spoelker, 16 nieces and nephews as well his in-laws Elaine Martin, Michelle (Greg) Allen, Chandra (Jeff Grabill), Rich (Janette) Martin.

Greg was a loyal friend, frustrated Purdue fan, and a master of dad jokes and movie quotes. He will be greatly missed.

We would like to thank all his friends and family for supporting and encouraging him throughout his life. You all helped to make him into the great man he was.

We would also like to thank Dr. Hanna and his staff at Simon Cancer Center, Dr. Anthony and his staff at IU West, and Heart to Heart Hospice as they supported us in the final days.
