Obituary

Claude Harold Peacock
Harold Peacock, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2022 at his home. He was born on December 7, 1929 in Canton, GA, the son of Claude H. and Nell Peacock. Despite having left Canton as a young adult to attend Georgia Military Academy and later join the Navy, he would refer to Canton as "home" throughout his life due to his many fond childhood memories and enduring friendships with "good ol' boys" he truly cherished. Some of his greatest joy came from organizing high school reunions and writing a newsletter he called the "Harold Tribune" where he shared memories of growing up there in the 1930's and 40's.

After completing his Navy service, he moved to Ft. Wayne, IN where he was fixed up on a blind date with JoAnn Springer. They were both smitten and went on to marry on 3/26/1960. Their marriage was blessed by two daughters, Susan and Jane, who he forever considered his "little girls".

His career in sales over the next several decades resulted in the family making moves to Little Rock, AR, Avon, IN, Charleston, SC, Brownsburg, IN and Mobile, AL. Following his retirement, he and JoAnn resided in Fairfield Glade, TN for 23 years. Due to his declining health, they made a final move back to Brownsburg in Nov., 2019 to be close to family.

Harold and JoAnn loved to travel, and he considered himself a master trip planner. Besides traveling throughout the U.S., they traveled Europe where they accumulated fabulous memories they would talk about for the rest of their lives. He also enjoyed wood-working and making gifts for his family which will always be held dear as symbols of his love. He whole-heartedly believed the best gifts are homemade.

Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, JoAnn, his parents, his sister Joyce Hall, sister-in-law Sue Laing, and mother and father-in-law, Helen and Harley Springer. Last, but certainly not least, he was preceded in death by the family dog, Robert, who the rest of the family had no doubt he would have saved from a burning house before attempting to save them.

He is survived by his two daughters, Susan (David) Rothenberger and Jane Peacock (Colleen Broderick), his beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Rothenberger and Hannah Rothenberger, and several nieces and nephews.

Harold will long be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit, his love of "war talk" with anyone who would listen and Turner Classic Movies which could not be seen too many times in his opinion. Most of all, he'll be remembered for his sentimental heart.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Harold's caregivers over the past 6 months whose compassionate care and loving support enabled him to live out his final days comfortably in his home.

A celebration of life will be held from 6pm to 9pm Tuesday June 21 at Green Street Restaurant, 911 N. Green St., Brownsburg, IN 46112.
