Henry C. Nichols Sr.
92, Indianapolis, formerly of Avon and Pittsboro, passed away May 20, 2016. He was born Oct. 9, 1923 in Westmoreland, TN, the oldest of five born to Ethel and Acie Nichols. The family moved to Indianapolis permanently in 1939. Henry served in Patton's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Armies during the Battle of the Bulge. After WWII, he was accepted into the first apprenticeship class of Plumbers Local 73 and remained a member in good standing with Local 440 after the Locals combined. He supervised various projects and was promoted to Project Manager/Estimator while working for Hayes Brothers Inc. in the mid 1950's. He ultimately retired from Wm F Freije Co. in 1985. He was preceded in death by his spouse Clara Mae Nichols, brothers Eugene Nichols and Robert Nichols, sister Betty Robinson, and daughter Sandra Kay Leach. He is survived by his brother Ralph Nichols; son Henry 'Butch' and Hannah Nichols Jr.; 5 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm Wed. May 25 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 1pm. Burial will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens Cemetery.
