Herschel Robert Hadley
Age 85, died September 25, 2017. He was born in Indianapolis, IN, on October 28, 1931 to the late Eula G. (Clapp) and Herschel A. Hadley. He attended Ben Davis High School, Earlham College, Purdue University (BS) where he pledged Acacia Fraternity, and received an MBA from Butler University. He served in the US Army from 1954-56. He spent the majority of his career as a chemical engineer at Eli Lilly and Company from where he retired after 30 years of service. He was an active member of First Friends Meeting, Indianapolis, where he served on and clerked many committees. He was a member of the Cloud Niners Flying Club. He had a lifelong interest in farming and gardening. In retirement he and wife Nancy enjoyed winters in Panama City Beach, FL for over 20 years. He also volunteered with the Midtown Food Pantry and, while in Florida, NOAA Laboratories. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Nancy Y. (Lee) Hadley, daughters M. Faye Hadley, N. Jean Hadley (David Jenkins), R. Lynn Hadley, son Daniel L. Hadley, sister Margaret "Peg" Brummit, sister-in-law Joan Lee, nephew Bob Weesner, three grandchildren, Kate, Lily and Joe Jenkins, and many more family members and friends. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to: WYM Benevolence Fund, 203 S. East St., Plainfield, IN 46168, ATTN: Belize 2017 Projects. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Sat. Oct. 14 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with memorial services there at 11 am. Graveside services will follow at Old Union Cemetery, Jamestown.
