Obituary

Irma Jean (Goff) Lael lived a life full of love, laughter, and a profound appreciation for the "little things." Her deep connection with family and friends was her most prized possession, and her faith in God accompanied her through every moment. Irma was called home on August 13th 2022, with loved ones by her side. She spent her time in service of her community, with a purpose of uplifting those around her, and she found the most happiness seeing joy in others. It was a life beautifully lived.

Irma was born on February 9th, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana to George and Ellen Goff and was the oldest to her sister Janet. Irma went to Lawrence Central High School and graduated in 1957. There she was involved in theater, drama, and was invited to speak on behalf of the graduating class. Always one to reminisce about the "good ole days" Irma kept in touch with many of her classmates throughout the years.

It was those same "good ole days" in which she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Lael, thanks to her dear friend, and Bob's sister, Glenda Lael Pilcher. They soon married and moved to Indianapolis where they had their first daughter, Leslie. Seven years later, along with a move to Speedway, Indiana, another daughter, Lori, was born.

Irma, Bob, and her two daughters eventually settled in Brownsburg, Indiana. They lived the classic Midwestern lifestyle that centered on family, hard work, and good times. Speaking of hard work, some might know Irma from her 28 years at the Brownsburg Kroger, ever present at the cash register, chatting with customers, making friends, and providing a smiling face. She retired in 1999. A job well done.

Over the years, Irma was able to enjoy what she was most passionate about… reading about history, "talkin' politics," being an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and cooking "down home" comfort food. Always the social butterfly, there weren't many days in which she didn't have something planned. Her quick wit, charm, and contagious laughter brought a welcomed warmth to any room she walked into.

Irma is preceded in death by her husband Robert Lael, and her parents George and Ellen Goff. She is survived by her sister, Janet Koch, her daughters, Leslie (Kevin) Tri and Lori (Michael) Canfield, in addition to her five grandchildren, Jake Tri, Bailey (Kevin) Oschman, Katie, Matt, and Allison Canfield, and her great grandchild, Crew Oschman.

Irma's celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 28th at Messiah Lutheran Church in Brownsburg Indiana. Public visitation is at 2 pm, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm. Please join us in celebrating this amazing woman's life. "We loved God. We loved each other. We loved our family. We loved life, and we laughed often." – Irma Jean Lael  Contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital at www.RileyKids.org
