Jack William Kelley was born on September 9, 1941, to Opal E. and Frank L Kelley at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima, Ohio, where his mother had earned her R.N. degree. Jack Grew up as an Ohio kid who played basketball and was part of the high school scholarship team all four years. He also enjoyed showing cattle at the county fair and milking the family dairy herd every day. Upon graduation, he entered Purdue University, majoring in Dairy Science. Jack worked in his dormitory as a waiter, reaching water captain rank. Having earned a Bachelor of Science at Purdue University, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and married Jill Kelley on June 7, 1964. Stationed in Zweibruecken W. Germany, Jack was designated the maintenance engineer of the Army post's reconnaissance equipment. While living in Germany, he and Jill enjoyed a two-year honeymoon touring western Europe in their red VW bug. Returning to Ohio in 1966, Jack managed a large research farm while commuting to Ohio State University earning his Master of Science Degree in Monogastric Nutrition. Becoming the father of beloved sons Aaron Michael and Quinn Matthew was life changing. He became the coach for the Perry Worth Pirates on the Pee Wee baseball diamond in Whitestown and a soccer coach on the Zionsville fields. Jack even raced BMX alongside Aaron and Quinn when they were teens. Jack's spiritual life was lively and full of joy, reflecting his personality. He was one of the founders of Christ Lutheran Church in Brownsburg, IN. He assisted the church rescue team at 6 southern storm sites and served many areas within the congregation except the choir as he was tone-deaf. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jill of Lebanon, sons, Aaron (Emily) Brownsburg, IN, Quinn of Lebanon, IN, grandson Eric of Lebanon, IN, sister, Karen Ras and family of Lewisburg, OH, brother-in-law Jack (Jane) of De Graff, OH and numerous other family members in Ohio and beyond. Dear Jack, we will miss the glow of your warm and open heart and the blessing of your generous open hand. Memorial visitation will be from 11 am to 12 pm Fri. Jan. 24 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with memorial services there at 12 pm.
