Obituary

Jack Newton Smith

95, Brownsburg, went to his heavenly home on May 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.   He was born in Greenville, TN to John and Madge (Easterly) Smith.  He moved to Indiana in 1937 and graduated from Pike High School in 1946.  Jack served his country proudly from 1950 to 1952 in the Army.  He was an Army Sergeant First Class-Korean War and was a Mason at the Speedway Masonic Lodge for 55 years.  Jack married Dolores Dickerson, the love of his life, in 1953.  They enjoyed 68 years together.  When asked how they met, Jack would say "She took hold and never let go."  He worked at Panhandle Pipeline for 37 years.  Jack is survived by sister-in-law's Jean Hitch and Judy Dickerson, Jamestown; nephews Doug (Angie) Dickerson and Dane (Stacy) Dickerson, Jamestown, David (Marla) Dickerson, Noblesville; nieces Debbie (Danny) Jackson, Jamestown, Dianna (Mike) Ray, Finchville, KY; many great nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Norma Baker; brother James Smith; brother-in-law's Robert Dickerson and Kenny Dickerson.  Visitation will be from 12 pm to 1 pm Fri. May 26 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 1 pm.  Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Indianapolis.  Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to a charity of the donor's choice.
