James Patrick
"Bernie" Fedderly

James Patrick Bernard (Bernie) Fedderly
February 20th, 1942 – March 15th, 2025
Bernie was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and retired in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Bernie was the most wonderful man. He loved deeply and was dearly loved. He was a friend to everyone he met. He was the definition of a people person with a genuine curiosity, interest, and compassion for people.
Early on, it was clear he had a mechanical aptitude. He took mechanic classes in high school, then graduated from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (where he would later receive the honor of top 50 alumni). He began honing his craft as a humble fleet mechanic, while simultaneously chasing his aspirations to someday be a top-tuner. Bernie, along with Terry Capp and his buddies, started racing whatever and whenever they could. Stair stepping upwards until he achieved his dream of becoming a professional full-time crew chief, a title he held for over 40 years. He received many honors, accolades, championships, and awards which he graciously accepted and downplayed and conveyed his gratitude for everyone who had helped him along the way.
He was well-respected in his industry, but he was known even more so for his kindness, loyalty, wisdom, fairness, storytelling, and honesty. He was generous with his time, talent, and resources and loved to laugh as well as make others laugh. If you knew Bernie, to say he enjoyed eating was an understatement! His real superpowers though were his calm demeanor and unending patience and optimism. We attribute his longevity to being married to his beloved little Mary, as well as his unwavering positive outlook.
He touched lives and had a passion for this life and lived fully! He was an inspiration to all. He would want everyone to know that it was a pleasure to be part of your lives. We once heard that you should live your life in a manner in which, if someone spoke ill of you, no one would believe it, and we strongly believe this was written about our Bernie.
He passed peacefully at home holding Mary and Bernadette's hands. He will be missed beyond measure. We are thankful for and better for having been loved by him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Clara Fedderly Scully, father Max
Fedderly, stepfather Patrick Scully, brother Roy Fedderly, and brother Lewis Fedderly, brother-in-law Harley King and nephew Eric Fedderly.
He was survived by his wife Mary of 58 ½ years, favorite daughter Bernadette Fedderly Perry, son-in-law David Perry, granddaughter Isabella Perry and grandson Kian Perry, sister Maxine Fedderly King, sister-in-law Karen Fedderly, nephews, and their families, along with Mary's family, numerous friends, former co-workers, and the drag racing community.
