James H.
Falk
December 4, 1940 – October 7, 2021
James H. Falk "Jim" born on December 4 th , 1940 to Henry J. and Marie (Sukau) Falk in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He was saved at a young age and baptized at the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. Jim grew up on the family farm in Butterfield, Minnesota where they raised corn and soybeans and also had cows, pigs, chickens and their family dog, Shep, that walked him to the bus every day as he was growing up. He attended Butterfield-Odin school and graduated from High School in 1958. He told many stories to his family of happy memories with his family and friends from driving the family car at a very young age in the field to sledding down the hill on the farm. As an only child, he learned to do everything there was to know on the farm which would later be the same farm that he and his wife farmed for 42 years. After graduating from high school, he enlisted as a volunteer in 1W Service and drove to Betheseda, Maryland to begin his work as a guinea pig at the NIH (National Institute of Health). From there he moved to Reedley, California to work for the Kingsview Psychiatric hospital as a volunteer maintenance person. In 1960, Jim attended a wedding of a friend and met his future wife there. On December 28, 1961, he married Beatrice Wall, daughter of a California raisin farmer. They moved to Fresno, California and there he worked as a service person in the parts department of Fresno Motor Sales. Their son, LeRoy was born in 1962 and their daughter Jenny was born in 1966. In 1969, they moved to Butterfield, Minnesota to take over the family farm where they raised corn and soybeans. Jim and Bea made a good team farming. Jim was the most meticulous and careful farmer and kept his tractors clean, his barns painted, his yard mowed and trimmed and the ditches mowed. His fields were free of weeds and rocks. And not only did he take much pride in his own fields, but served in church in nearly every capacity there was. Jim was the person to call if anything needed done from painting the church to removing snow in winter to taking a stranger to a destination in a neighboring town. Having a servant's heart, others were always first. He also drove the people mover trailer with his spotlessly clean tractor every year for the Butterfield Threshing Bee. In 2005, they retired and had an auction to sell their equipment. But that didn't stop him from farming. He learned to drive the modern tractors for the same farmer that rented their farmland. In 2012, they sold the family yard and moved to Danville, Indiana to be near their daughter. Even though he missed his lifetime friends and cousins from Minnesota, he was happy to be near his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He continued to help others in Indiana – especially his daughter with projects and was often gone to for his advice.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice, his son, LeRoy, his daughter, Jenny and her children, Rodney III, Amanda and her husband Kyle Jorns, their daughters, Hannah and Hallie, and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Rodney Ziemer, Jr.
