December 21, 1931 – February 2, 2024
James Bernard King, age 92, a man so loved, was taken home to be with Jesus, and those gone before him on February 2, 2024 at Cleveland Heart Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on December 21, 1931 in Mazomanie, Wisconsin to Carroll & Alice (Murphy) King. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army. Served as a Tank Commander in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He married the love of his life Ivy Johnson on 12/20/55 in Dubuque, Iowa. Jim and Ivy were blessed to have four beautiful children, Kim (Scott) Sweeney, Kari (Jim) Kobayashi, Tim King and Kristie King (Melissa Duniphan). He has five grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle), Tommy (Cody), Sarah, Katie, Austin and three great grandchildren Chloe, Paige, and Olivia.
Jim graduated from Mazomanie High School in 1948 and was nicknamed "Little Jimmy King" by his friends. He went on to become an Air Traffic Controller in Indianapolis, Indiana for thirty years, followed by another twenty years as a controller instructor. He was kind and loving to everyone he met. Jim never met a stranger who didn't become a friend by the end of the conversations. Jim's sense of humor never left him, always a smile, always having fun. He was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan and cherished his family every given day. He was also a true Irishman, loving St. Patrick's Day each year making the best of listening to "Oh Danny Boy" and singing along with every word. He loved music and was a devoted Catholic being a member of St. Malachy Parish for years. Faith, family, friends, and football were the focus of Jim's life. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Ivy, and siblings Kathryn Moston Fell, Pat Morrow, Mary Griffin, Jerry King, and Jack King.
Memorial visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm Fri. Feb. 16 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with family eulogy and military honors at 12 noon. A Memorial Mass will follow in St. Malachy Catholic Church at 12:30 pm.
