Obituary

James was 73 when he passed away peacefully at his home in Pittsboro, Indiana. He is survived by his wife Reba Evans and daughters Carey (Brian) Folco, Amy Evans, Sarah Farmer, and Emily (Joshua) Young. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren who thought their Papa was the kindest, funniest, most generous, and loving Papa around. He loved to play games with them, giving quarters when they scored points. James was honored to serve as an Air Force captain, and he had degrees from Indiana University in accounting and Spanish. He was an employee of the state of Indiana Department of Revenue. James was a long-time member of Bethesda Baptist Church and the Brownsburg Lions Club. He got great joy out of serving at prayer breakfasts and community events. He was honored as a W.P. Woods Fellow by the Lions of Indiana. His biscuits and gravy were at least Brownsburg-famous. He also loved working with his Sunday school kids. One of those kids recently wrote his family that "Your father had a huge impact on me and my family's lives. He never gave up on me when I was a wayward rebellious teen…be encouraged today to know that he made a difference in people's lives, and I am one of those." James greatest love was his family. He did his very best to take care of all his girls. Everyone knew how much he loved his wife Reba through 49 years of marriage. His daughters were so blessed by his unwavering support. He never forgot to let them know how proud he was of them. In the words of a daughter, he had a heart of gold and was the most caring, generous, genuine, faithful, consistent, hard-working, and loving man around. There is no measure for how much he will be missed. Visitation is Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Bethesda Baptist Church, 7950 North, County Road 650 East, Brownsburg, IN. Hours are 11:00am – 2:00pm, with the funeral to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Bethesda Christian Schools.
