Toney
May 25, 1938 – December 26, 2020
James Franklin Toney passed from this earth to his heavenly home on December 26, 2020, a victim of complications of the Covid virus. He was born May 25, 1938 in Brownsburg, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents William Russell Toney and Wanda Alice Money; brother, Russell Eugene Toney and a sister, Linda Kay Toney Buck. He lived and worked on his father and mother's farm in Boone County while growing up. He is father to four daughters Elizabeth Ann Toney Hynes, Barbara Sue Toney Cornwell (Chris), Sara Jane Toney Parsons, and Margaret Louise Toney Dalgleish (Alex). Early in his work history he worked in Brownsburg for Waggoner's Trucking & Burcham's Citgo. In 1960 he became employed by Praxair in Speedway. IN (1960-1970) (Union Carbide). In 1970 he began hauling industrial gases for McKeown Transportation out of East Chicago, IL. (Also for Union Carbide products) 1970-1980. In 1980, he retired from McKeown and joined a new company as part owner called Excel Graphics, Inc. In March 17, 1975 he married Doris Elaine Lollar Merritt and enjoyed 45 years of a blended family with three stepsons, George Robert Merritt, David Stanley Merritt, and Thomas Scott Merritt. He has been a wonderful husband, father, and example for many to follow. In this blended family he has shared his love with all 17 grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. His love of travel was evident by many pictures and stories of places he had traveled to. Some of his favorite places to travel to were Alaska, around the United States in their RV, and taking cruises with his wife Doris. Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm Tuesday Jan. 5 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral service there at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Brownsburg Cemetery. In compliance with current regulations and restrictions, guests are required to wear masks and observe social distancing.
