Jay Douglas Yoder, 68, of Avon, IN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 22, 1947 in Bellefontaine, OH to Harold Jay Yoder and Mary Joan Yoder (Forsythe). Doug grew up on a dairy farm in West Liberty, OH where he very early was taught the importance of hard work. He graduated from West Liberty-Salem High School, Cedarville College in Cedarville, OH with a B.A. in Elementary Education, and Wright State University in Dayton, OH with a M. Ed. in Elementary School Administration. Doug had a heart and passion for Christian Education. He served for almost 40 years at schools in Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana as an elementary teacher, elementary principal, middle school principal and Superintendent. After retiring from education up until March 2015, Doug worked part-time at Lowe's in Zionsville, IN. Doug is remembered fondly by family and friends as a man of faith. His faith in God and his family were extremely important to him. Those who know him know that he had a servant's heart. He freely gave of himself to help out anyone. Nothing was ever too great of a sacrifice for him. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Joan Yoder. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Charlotte K. Yoder; three sons, Scott (LeAnne) Yoder of Westfield, IN, Matthew (Dawn) Yoder of Marion, IN, Brian (Christy) Yoder of Plainfield, IN; one daughter, Rachael (Scott) Stone of Avon; thirteen grandchildren; five brothers, Terry (Lilly) Yoder, Tim (Sue) Yoder, Ron (Chris Ann) Yoder, Nick (Pam) Yoder, and Chris Yoder; one sister, Jeannie (Rod) Robison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at Bethesda Baptist Church in Brownsburg, IN on Saturday, August 22 from 10:00am-12:00pm. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 12:00pm. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery in Brownsburg immediately after the service. Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg will be handling the arrangements.
