Obituary

Joseph Maalik Goodman, lovingly called "TONY" by family and friends, was born Scott Anthony Norful on October 16, 1961 in Saint Louis, Missouri to the union of Bessie Jean Norful and Lewis Henry Pace Jr.  Both parents preceded him in death.  Also preceding him in death were his sister Barbara Ann Norful; three brothers, Lewis Henry "Rocco" Pace III, Levell Kevin "Dino" Pace and Lance Jerome Pace; grandmothers, Cleola Farrar Jackson (Big Mommy) and Mildred D. Humphery; grandfather, Raymond Farrar; aunts, Freddie Dee Land, Cleola Laura Mae Farrar Jackson, Sheryl Rogers, and Darlene Hubbard; uncles, Samuel Charles Farrar and Don Juan Pace; father-in-law Ronald J. Weller; and brother-in-law, Michael Weller.

After the passing of his mother, Joseph (Tony) lived with his grandmother, Big Mommy, until 1974 when he began living with his aunt and uncle, Linda and Arthur Turner in Huntsville, Alabama.  While living in Huntsville, he attended the Huntsville City Schools. After the family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri in 1975, he attended school in the Riverview Gardens School District, graduating from Riverview Gardens High School.  At Riverview Gardens High School, he was very active in the Thespian Society, most notably his singing performance of "If I Were A Rich Man" when he played the part of "Teyve" in "Fiddler On The Roof".  That was the beginning of his career utilizing his beautiful voice.  He held several jobs in the media in both radio and television.  He also had a long career as a customer service representative with various companies and most recently as a Security Guard for the Indianapolis International Airport.  In addition he was offered a position to start working for the Airport Operations Center before he became ill.

He confessed his belief in Christ and was baptized at an early age.  He was a natural born speaker of the Word of God, often giving mini sermons as a young child.  In 2010 he became an ordained minister.

On August 4, 1996, Joseph was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Laure Weller.  Laure and Joseph (Tony) were inseparable.  When he became ill, Laure became his personal nurse.  One of his most recent social media postings said, "2020 has been very challenging for me health wise.   But as you can see Dr. Laure came to my rescue! Taking 'in sickness and in health' to ANOTHER LEVEL..."

Joseph (Tony) was special to all of his family and friends.  He often gave encouraging remarks to anyone in need of a little uplifting.  Recently, he gave a life to those remarks by creating statements that he wrote under the moniker, "Maalik."

On Joseph's (Tony) 59 th birthday, October 16, 2020, fifteen family members traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana from St. Louis, Missouri to surprise him for his birthday and to show the love they had for him.  Five days later, October 21, 2020, the Lord called Joseph (Tony) home from labor to reward.  Our loss is Heaven's Gain!

Joseph (Tony) leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 24 years, Laure Goodman; his daughters, Shyla Powell (Leon) and Lacey Norful; his sister Denise Dew Bennett (Dennis); his aunts, Linda Farrar Turner, Rayomi Farrar Huntspon, Willia Farrar Jackson, Sharon Farrar, Lovetta Farrar, Mildred Bryant, Delvitta C. Pace, Charlotte Jones, Debourah Humphery, Rebecca Turnage, Halcyone Allen, and Katherine Pace, his uncles, Reginald Humphrey, Roosevelt Pace, and Timothy Tolson; brothers/cousins, Artis Keith Turner, Christopher Farrar, Jerry Jackson Jr., Teryle Huntspon, John Young Jr., Charles Jerome Young, and Joseph Farrar; sisters/cousins, Wanda Young, Monica Huntspon, Donna Farrar Conner, Alanda Farrar Dilworth, Lawanna Jackson, Michelle Jackson, and Angela Pace; special niece and nephews, Racheal Jackson, Aaron Dew and Andre Dew; special cousins, Thomas Marshall (LaMeeka), Carina Sackhichand, and Marvin Tyrone Pace Sr.; mother-in-law, Judy Weller; sister-in-laws, Dawn Weller, Cindy LeVasseur (Paul), and Susan Weller; brother-in-law Kevin Weller; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other cousins, other relatives and friends.
